Studio
GKL1 is the first semester on the 5 years master in landscape architecture. The
studio contains a series of 4 semester tasks focusing on landscape materiality,
form, space and process as a profound introduction to the topic. Understanding
natural processes, ephemeral and dynamic qualities of the landscape are an
ongoing discussion in the studio work, and various artistic working approaches are
tested as a way of tackling how ideas and sketches can be shaped into form. The
selected works presented here show how the students have worked with a live music
performance as a source of inspiration in shaping a place in the terrain near
Akerselva into `Musikken Plass´.
Hand drawings
following the rhythm of bassist Steinar Raknes are transformed into simple
models and further integrated on individual sites at Akerselva, reflecting the
`drama´of the varying topography and pace of the water. Hence, the local
atmosphere play a big role in the development of the landscape architectural
intervention. For this purpose, words from the music vocabulary are used to
bridge the intuitive energy from the initial sketches and models into a final concept for Musikkens Plass.
In all
semester tasks on this first semester, we emphasize and value the process and the developing of a working method, and how each step
- forth… and often also backwards – can lead to future giant steps in pursuing a
the sensibilities of landscape architecture.
